Stamford U'15s A vs. Trent College U'15s A

The second game of the ISHL for Stamford saw the visitors complete the world's shortest warm-up! With it being a case of, "auto-pilot," the visitors not surprisingly had more defending to do in the opening passages of the first half. To the team's credit, it was dogged and the visitors frustrated their opponents. The awarding of the first short corner midway through the first half was superbly saved by the stick of captain, Andrew Inskip. The hosts opened the scoring with 8mins left of the first half at the back post. It was surely to be 0-1 at the end of the first half, or was it? A long through ball reached Eliot Mitchell who rounded his defender and then the keeper to reverse the ball against a tracking back defender. Penalty flick! Jake Leeds superbly dispatched the resultant flick to make it 1-1 at half-time.

Turning point of the game came in the first 10secs of the second half, a roll-out by Archie Dickie-Meadows found striker Connor Packer who agonisingly slapped the ball just wide of the left hand post and just out of reach of the left-forward - Tom Dancy. So close to leading! The style of play was better in the second half from both teams and it led to a really quick, free-flowing game of hockey. Trent were always a little bit more threatening in their attacks and with their high press, it allowed players to be ahead of the ball as a result of turnovers. This allowed for a deflection to make the score 2-1 and this was soon 3-1 with a well-worked short corner. An aerial caught the Stamford defence out and a superb reverse-stick found the bottom right corner to make it 4-1. Stamford with 3mins on the board did not give up and did obtain a deserved second goal through Tom Dancy.

Although the result was a loss, there was a pleasing style of play from the Stamford boys and definitely more effort put into the cause. The troops go again next week!

Result: Stamford U'15s A 2 - 4 Trent College U'15s A
