U13 Girls Qualify for East Regional Tournament

SHS entered the U13 IN2Hockey County Hockey Tournament for the first time this year. Our first game of the tournament was against Bourne Grammar School. With the bus journey in their legs, and a limited warm up on the pitch, the girls were sluggish and not fully switched on. Both teams were extremely evenly matched and the final score was 3-2 to SHS, a score which was deserved but achieved in a nail biting manner. The girls knew they needed to refocus and try to implement tactics and skills from last term if they were to qualify for the East Regional Tournament. Our next game against Skegness Grammar School gave us the opportunity to focus on our attacking strategies and a strong 6-0 lead at half time boosted the girls confidence significantly, and a final score of 7-1 saw us a step closer to becoming county champions. Next up we had Lincoln Minster School, a team who had mixed results throughout the day. That being said we continued to play our own game and resulted in a 5-0 win. With just one more game to play the girls knew it was the most important game of the day; with both teams being unbeaten all tournament it was the decider for who would be crowned champions. Fatigue started to set in and silly mistakes across the pitch saw us concede a goal in the first half, putting us on the back foot. Despite excellent work rate in the second half, and some exciting attacking chances we were out played by St. Hugh’s who were an extremely skilful team. When the final whistle blew it was 0-2 to St. Hugh’s, seeing us both qualify for the Regional Tournament in March at Redbridge Sports Centre.

A special mention must go to Kitty Hawthorne, Isabel Lawrence who held the centre of the pitch throughout all four games, and Sophie Reeves and Evie Sanderson for their attacking strength.
